I enjoy many styles of music, yet jazz music is one of my top 2. Particularly live jazz recordings.

The live recording of Charles Mingus, The Great Concert of Charles Mingus, is one of my most favorite recordings I own. This concert is one where I wish I could have been there, sitting in front of the band, at that midnight show.

If you can find the 3 album original release, get it! That is what I also own, and it is better than the CD release. You get liner notes, pictures, and a longer version of "Meditations On Integration (Or For A Pair Of Wire Cutters)" with Charles' rants about racism in America.

Continuing my obsession of late with the music of Eric Dolphy. I remember the first time I heard an Eric Dolphy solo, it came blasting out of my speakers while listening to "The Great Concert of Charles Mingus." Raw, passionate, and beautiful.

I do not know why certain music stirs my soul. All I know is that it does.

Charles Mingus piqued my interest back in the 1970's, and I have no idea why. But, I purchased the 3 disc album The Great Concert of Charles Mingus.

This is where I heard Eric Dolphy first. I've been a fan every since.
