Darn!  As soon as I post about my trip on Amtrak to New Orleans, this happens.

This comment sums up my feelings: "But his fondness for the dining car isn’t about the food as much as the experience, he said. The time to sit down for a formal meal with views of America that can’t be seen while flying, and socializing with other travelers."


I sure hope the communal dining does not go away, I'd really miss it.

I love New Orleans. The music, food, sounds, smells, people, and history. I would not want to live there though; no sleep and too much fun will kill me.

 

I took my 10 year old grandson to the Satchmo Festival last August. He is starting to play the clarinet and I figured the best way for him to experience "real fun" clarinet playing is in New Orleans.

 

We took the Amtrak's "City of New Orleans" train out of Champaign. We had a "Roomette" on the train. Comfortable and serviceable for two. Grandson enjoyed the ride!

Train travel is delightful with children. They think the sounds and movements of the train are pretty cool. The private compartment was a nice respite from sitting with everyone in the lounge car.

I finished The Expanse "space opera" last night. What a ride!

Reminiscing where this opera has taken me through the 9 books, it feels like remembering real people and places. Earth, Mars, Belters, The OPA, Fred, Amos, Bobbie, Clarissa, James, and Naomi.

Wars, intrigues, humanity expanding, and always in the background; the protomolecule lurks.

Yup, this was/is a great space opera.
