This is a powerful book. The life stories behind the main characters reflect a true to life world; good, bad, harsh, selfish, cruel, exceptionally kind. All are flawed, some more then others, but still....
I was drawn in to this book with Mr. Butler's descriptions of the land and people in Wisconsin. Felt like home. The author does not dwell (waste time) on key events in the story. He presents those events well and keeps the story moving.
Yup, all of us (those "others") are kind, yet still flawed. We need to recognize that.
